ABC Awards endorsed Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Counselling Skills Development

ABC-awards accredits this Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills course in Folkestone, Kent. ABC Awards is a government approved counselling training awarding body. 

Entry Requirements

We accept applications from candidates who have previously studied a counselling training course at Level 3. This course is primarily for candidates who are seeking to advance existing training in counselling skills and application as well as building on continuing personal development.

Course Fees

The course fees for September 2017 are as follows:

Training Fees: £750.00 including ABC Awards registration fee. Deposit required £150.00.

Course Dates

The next Level 3 Advanced programme will run fortnightly on a Wednesday evening starting on Wednesday September 13th 5.30-8.30pm, finishing in March 2018.

There will be four additional Saturday attendances throughout the year. 

Key Aims of the course programme


Unit 1: Professional Framework

This unit aims to deepen the learners understanding of Counselling practice within a Professional Framework

Unit 2: Developing counselling theories

In this unit, learners will build on their understanding of a number of counselling theories to raise awareness of their value and use when working with people.

Areas of study:

1. Understand the major therapeutic models of counselling
2. Understand the principles of these major therapeutic models

Unit 3: Developing Counselling Skills and Practice

Through practice, learners will build on their range of skills used within the counselling profession. Additionally, they will experience and practice sessions in which counselling skills are used by professionally managing activities with a start, middle and end. Cultural differences will be recognised, acknowledged and worked with.

Areas of study:

  1. Understand what it means to communicate effectively
  2. Understand the need to for effective communication in the counselling environment
  3. Understand the importance of effective communication in the counselling profession
  4. Understand the process of a counselling skills session
  5. Be able to conduct a session with a client in an ethical and safe way
  6. Reflect on own practice

Unit 4: Personal development

In this unit, learners reflect on how the study of counselling theory, the use of counselling skills and feedback received can inform personal development and growth, in particular their understanding of self
